AQUARIUM AT NAGAON BEACH,ALIBAUG
Introduction
Oceans:-
⦁ Oceans is where life on earth began
⦁ Life began in the seas, 3.1billion to 3.4billion years ago.
⦁ The average depth of ocean is approximately 4kms.
⦁ The earth covers 71% of the water surface(362,000,000kms3) or 71% of surface of globe is water and contains 97% of earth , which is about 1,300,00,000km3 or 328,000,000miles3.
Why aquarium is designed and for whom?
⦁ Aquarium is basically designed for fishes. Their life style, their living style.
⦁ Fish truly dominate the waters of the world. They come in many shapes and sizes from the biggest whale sharks to strange seahorses and fish so tiny that they can hardly be seen
⦁ Fish have been around for 400 million years! They live in seas, rivers, and lakes. Wherever you find water, you can bet there are plenty of fish swimming around.
⦁ Aquarium: - aquarium is simply an artificial habitat for aquatic animals. Aquarium is especially design device that acts as an artificial habitat for water dwelling animals. Although most people associates an aquarium with tropical fishes. Aquaria can also be used as house amphibians or large marine mammals. In addition many aquariums contain various plants species.
Aim of study
⦁ Aim of is to design appropriate environment to fish kingdom with respect to various techniques and make people aware of marine life which could preserve fish kingdom.
⦁ Its aim is to stimulate an approach for understating the broad coastline and the life beneath it, and also ecology, geology, evolution and survival.

Objective of study
⦁ The dependence of living thing on one another is well known. The world of relationship is finely balanced; the increase in co2 level in the atmosphere is partly due to burning of rainforest trees is believed to be cause of global warming.
⦁ In this circumstances efforts to conserve the natural marine heritage to bridge the gap in the form of extensive conservative schemes like aquarium, oceanarium,
⦁ So the objectives of study is,To promote and protect the world of fish kingdom through exhibition and education.
Why an Aquarium Planned to be on Land?
⦁ If we look at the design, it will be clear that a part of the facilities of the projects better situated on the land either than on water. Almost all oceanarium, aquariums in the world are located for major part on the land with only a certain display areas of some jutting out in water. E.g. Sentosa underwater world at Singapore.
⦁ The site I have chosen is near sea but sea shore is not shallow enough to locate any facilities there in. Apart from that the strict rule of coastal regulations zones also proves the handicap for any construction inside the Sea belt.
⦁ As from my site the sea water is not so far, all the surroundings of site is sea and beach. It’s very much advantage for me to do better designing so that the feel of sea should not be avoided. The visitors visiting this aquarium should have also enjoying the sea.
The Need and Concept
⦁ An aquarium built almost anywhere will prove to be popular attraction. Nevertheless, to be successful, whether financially or in terms of education or recreation, it must be sited where a real need exists.
⦁ The concept of the aquarium, what it will be and do, must be determined early. Within the funds available, what usual and what special featured will be included must be decided upon.
⦁ Public aquariums are leaning more and more towards educational recreation for their visitors. It is felt that a mere line-up of tanks containing specimens identified by photographs, names, and range may be interesting, but is not sufficiently informative. Groupings of specimens may be made to illustrate environmental preferences, means of locomotion, sight, hearing, food habits, schooling, use by man, and any number of other interesting and informative themes. If these are properly presented, the visitor will unknowingly absorb and retain much knowledge of aquatic life.
Concept for designing
⦁ My concept for designing this aquarium is “Aquarium village”. As this aquarium is proposed in alibaug which is famous tourist attraction and which is very assessable for all tourist.
⦁ So this aquarium is on top of attraction structure. So aquarium will be not be a individual structure, like how houses are placed in village like that only displays are placed.
⦁ So there are different rooms for different kind of displays. Fresh water n marine water fishes are separated from each other and for connecting them there is passage provided. As in local village different caste people live together.
⦁ Likewise my rooms are placed have different sizes, but similar to each other. “Unity in Diversity”. In sea all fishes enjoy their life they have. So all blocks placed are floating on site but they are connected by passage. Whole site is occupied by aquarium village. In each room 4-6 kinds of fishes are displayed with their names and characteristics.
⦁ Offices and parking are in site which is included in aquarium village and rest all is landscape Ares, sitting area. And amphitheatre is also provided where dolphin show is conducted.
